Is Glide the right tool for you?

Reader!

I've been building custom software solutions with Glide for almost four years.

If you're new to my newsletter and unfamiliar with Glide, let me quickly explain.

Glide is a tool that allows anyone to build apps very quickly without needing to know how to code.

It is now used by tens of thousands of developers and businesses worldwide, with over 1 million apps deployed.

Glide is optimized for creating business-oriented apps.

Some typical apps that can be quickly built with Glide include CRMs, inventory tracking systems, project management tools, client portals, event management systems, dashboards, knowledge management systems, applicant trackers, and more.

You can build very complex apps in a fraction of the time required by traditional development methods, though Glide has its limitations. For instance, it is not suitable for building large consumer apps like social media platforms used by millions of people.

However, you can quickly build proof-of-concepts to test a business idea, which could eventually grow into a large business.

If you need to cater to millions of users, it's better to build a custom solution from scratch after validating your initial concept.

The ideal Glide customer is a business looking to build or replace a custom app to solve a specific internal workflow or process.

This is especially true for companies that rely heavily on spreadsheets or have not found an off-the-shelf tool with the right features.

For example, if your business is using Asana for project management but needs crucial features Asana doesn't offer, Glide can help. Asana is a large company and unlikely to change its product roadmap to meet your specific needs.

This is where Glide excels. It allows you to build custom software with the specific features you need to solve or improve a process.

Another great feature is that Glide can work with your existing data stored in Google Sheets, Airtable, Excel, or any SQL source.

Additionally, Glide can seamlessly integrate with hundreds of third-party apps you may already use, such as Make, Zapier, Gmail, Azure, HubSpot, Intercom, and OpenAI.

Glide's native OpenAI integration is particularly noteworthy, as it enables you to build incredibly powerful apps that leverage the fast-evolving world of generative artificial intelligence.

To help you build apps even faster, Glide offers hundreds of app templates for various use cases, so you don't have to start from scratch.

Next week, I'll share several templates I've built with Glide, including a few that leverage AI to generate and analyze data in real-time.

Stay tuned!

Reader! There are two ways to get started building apps with Glide. Way 1: Start from scratch. Way 2: Don't start from scratch. Typically, Way 2 is the best option as it can save considerable development time. But, how do you get started with Way 2? Step 1: Create a Glide account for free → HERE Step 2: Choose a template that matches the type of app you want to build. Glide offers hundreds of free and paid templates on their template store. However, in my experience, many of those templates...

Reader! I keep testing the limits of Glide + generative AI. It turns out, ChatGPT can generate pretty good multiple-choice quizzes on almost any subject matter you can think of. Not only that, you can upload a PDF or link to an online article and it can quiz you on it too. The challenge was to encapsulate that functionality on a proper app using Glide. After several days tinkering with the logic, I'm happy to announce I managed to get it all working. I'm calling this new Glide template...

Reader! Another week, another Glide template! Glide is a great tool to build apps to manage teams and workflows. A very common request I get is to build apps to assign specific checklists to workers. This is a typical requirement for property management/inspection companies where crews have to complete a specific set of tasks every time they visit a location. Well, now you can streamline your cleaning or inspection processes with my new checklists Glide app template. This template allows you...
